Ok, so when I last left you I had been converted to cloth diapers. Which it turns out I really enjoyed using they were very easy to take care. They actually make these new diapers that are very easy. Basically it is a pocket shaped like a diaper with buttons where the diposable tape usually is. In the pocket you put inserts made out of terry cloth. Anyway, I can write more about the specifics of cloth diapering another time if I get around to it, but needless to say I found it to be extremely cost efficient after the initial investment...super cute and I wasn't throwing away 8-12 diapers full of human fecal matter into our landfill everyday. The other thing I started looking into again was the food my family was eating. At the time I found buying organic to be expensive and there really weren't any good choices. Additionally since we live in Portland the only store that carried half way decent organic was in Corpus it wasn't feasible to completely convert. Also I began looking at the cleaning products we used particularly because we could not use regular detergent on the cloth diapers. I tried making my own...you know vinegar, baking soda, etc. but things just didn't get cleaned well and Clay was always complaining. Next I tried Melaluca but I honestly could not afford them and it was a pain to have to order through someone else. I talked alot about wishing I had a garden, but that never seemed to happen...so even the compost bin that I tried to have was kinda wothless since I didn't have anything to put my compost on...LOL! I was beginning to feel a little bit defeated. Like what is the point...it's not like anyone cares if you recycle or eat healthy. One thing that I seemed able to do successfully was to talk to other moms about breastfeeding, natural childbirth and wearing your babies. I kind of took that on as my cause...I guess...I always have to have one!
Then came the time in my life where my daughter was going to be 2 soon, she wasn't nursing anymore and she wouldn't be needing diapers much longer and strange as it sounds I began to feel like I didn't have a cause anymore...what is was, was just a natural transition. So I decided to go back to work, I started off part-time and before long I was ready for the fulltime lifestyle and...OUR FIRST HOME...well that is good for now, everyone just arrived home from school...so to be continued.
